Throughout their three years of residency, each categorical resident follows a panel of patients ages birth to 21 years at the UNC Children’s Primary Care Clinic located on Franklin Street. This clinic sees children for both well and sick care as well as for chronic conditions such as asthma and ADHD. Once weekly, we have a behavior and developmental specialist see patients in consultation with our residents. We are also able to offer adolescent care including contraception management and long acting reversible contraception placement. Once monthly, there is a Pediatric Gynecologist that works within our clinic as a consultant for our patients. We also share a space with the Beacon Child and Family Program who sees children for the evaluation and management of suspected abuse or neglect. Our population includes patients from both rural and urban areas of Central North Carolina. Approximately 75% of our patient population are insured through Medicaid. We see a diverse population with about 25% of our patients speaking Spanish only. In addition to our nursing staff, we also have a Community Liaison who works to connect our patients to community resources as well as Lactation Consultants on-site available to see all breastfeeding patients and mothers.
