The Pediatrics Residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and UNC Health Care is committed to recruiting diverse residents to our training programs. We respect and value the uniqueness each individual brings to our residency family. In addition, we are committed to creating and sustaining an inclusive learning and clinical environment. Our mission is to train knowledgeable, skilled, and compassionate pediatricians to improve the health and well-being of all the patients and families we serve. We care for diverse populations at all of our teaching sites which include multiple racial, ethnic and cultural groups, transgender youth, military families, immigrants and refugees from all over the world with equitable access and exceptional standards of care.

We accomplish this goal by providing educational and leadership opportunities designed to develop excellence in all areas of general pediatric medicine competencies. We strive to promote the development of our trainees in a diverse, respectful environment where our colleagues demonstrate professionalism, enhance learning, and foster personal and professional sustainability.

The Department of Pediatrics is proud to partner with the Office of Inclusive Excellence in the School of Medicine and the Graduate Medical Education (GME) community at UNC Health Care to support diversity among its trainees and promote a community of inclusion and respect. The Residency Diversity Initiative provides opportunities for collaboration, advocacy and fellowship inclusive of all within our GME community.
