Nate Wooten, MD – First Year
Medical School: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Nate earned a degree in Health and Exercise Science from Wake Forest University and his MD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. Nate is in our Child Neurology program; he’ll complete two years of Pediatrics before transitioning to Neurology. He chose UNC for training because “as a native North Carolinian, it was fun traveling the country for interviews and seeing new places. At the end of the day though, nowhere else compared to the perfect triad of great academics, beautiful weather, and warm people!” Nate threw the hammer in college (Go Deacs!) and has backpacked in the Patagonia Mountains with his wife Melissa!

 Sonia Ann Varghese, MD

Sonia Ann Varghese, MD – Second Year
Medical School: American University of Antigua

Sonia received her medical degree from the American University of Antigua. She also holds an MBA in health administration from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire and a MPH in public health from the University of North Texas in Fort Worth, Texas. Sonia’s area of interest in neurology is autism. She chose UNC due to its great reputation, highly ranked residency program, the experienced faculty and the supportive staff. Her interests are watching sports, traveling, trying new restaurants and spending time with her family.

Katelyn Ammons

Katelyn Ammons, MD – Third Year
Medical School: University of Toledo

Katelyn received her medical degree from the University of Toledo. Her areas of interest in neurology are epilepsy and sleep disorders. Katelyn chose UNC because she was impressed with the program, global health opportunities, and most importantly, the friendly people. She wanted a program where she could see herself fitting in well, and UNC was a perfect fit for her. In addition, Katelyn enjoys the beauty of the Triangle area and its many offerings. She says, “Being a runner and outdoors person, I love that I can do my favorite activities outside all year long in beautiful Chapel Hill.” Some of Katelyn’s other hobbies include tennis, kayaking, traveling and cooking.

Jordan Broman-Fulks, MD

Jordan Broman-Fulks, MD – Fourth Year
Medical School: Medical University of South Carolina

Jordan went to medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina. Having attended UNC for undergrad, he couldn’t wait to get back to the area for residency – Chapel Hill is a beautiful and safe place for his family, gives them access to all their favorite ways to spend their time such as attending college sporting events and concerts, while only being a few hours from the mountains and beach. He and his wife are the proud parents of a beautiful daughter, and also two dogs.

Senyene Hunter, MD

Senyene Hunter, MD, PhD – Fifth Year
Medical School: University of North Carolina

Senyene received a BS in Chemistry and a PhD in Biological Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before entering medical school at UNC, Senyene was a professor at St. Augustine’s College. She enjoys creative writing, biking the local trails, weight lifting, cooking, and rollerblading (which includes an extensive amount of falling). Her favorite way to relieve stress is engaging her 9 year old son in a spirited game of soccer or basketball.
