The program is designed to train physicians to be independent clinical geneticists, proficient in providing comprehensive medical genetics services, capable of initiating and collaborating in basic and applied research activities, and effective in teaching and communicating their expertise to others. These goals are achieved through in-depth clinical experience with adult and pediatric patients with cytogenetic, biochemical, single-gene and complex multifactorial genetic conditions.\u00a0 Work in multispecialty teams that include genetic counselors, metabolic dietitians, and numerous other specialists is emphasized.\u00a0 The program is administered and housed in the Department of Pediatrics Division of Genetics and Metabolism; all training is based at UNC Hospitals although rotations include clinics and faculty from several other Departments within UNC including the Departments of Genetics, Pathology and Obstetrics and Gynecology.<\/p>\n<p>The program consists of 18 months of broad-based, clinically-oriented medical genetics rotations including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/pediatrics\/education\/genetics-metabolism\/\">Pediatric General Genetics and Metabolism Clinics<\/a>, the Pediatric Genetics and Metabolism Division Consult Service, <a href=\"https:\/\/unclineberger.org\/genetics\/\">Adult Cancer<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/genetics\/for-patients-and-providers\/unc-adult-genetics-clinic\/\">Adult Genetics Clinics<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/obgyn\/mfm\/our-services\/unc-reproductive-genetics-services\/\">Reproductive Genetics Services<\/a> clinics, as well as six months of research.<\/p>\n\n<!-- iframe plugin v.5.2 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/457379231?h=47eee29633\" width=\"780\" height=\"410\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" 0=\"allowfullscreen\" scrolling=\"yes\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Application Guidelines<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>The UNC MGG residency is not accepting applications for the\u00a0<\/strong><strong>2026\u00a0<\/strong><strong>ERAS season, however the UNC Pediatric Genetics Combined Residency programs is open to applications from graduating medical students.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/pediatrics\/education\/pediatrics-genetics-combined-residency\/\">Pediatrics &#8211; Genetics Combined Residency | PEDIATRIC EDUCATION<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Candidates may apply for the Medical Genetics Residency after completing two or more years of primary specialty training.
