The program is aligned with the Pediatric Residency Review Committee requirement that all residents learn QI methods and participate in a QI project during their residency.<\/p>\n<p>The QI Program assures that all residents:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Participate in at least one QI project during their residency,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Have access to a knowledgeable QI faculty advisor to assist them with their project,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Understand the important role of physician leadership in QI efforts, and<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Understand and can perform the basic steps of a QI project:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-lg-3 col-md-3 col-xs-12 col-sm-12 oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Select area for improvement<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"\/pediatrics\/files\/2018\/08\/AimStatementWorksheet.pdf\">Write project aim with measurable goals<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"\/pediatrics\/files\/2018\/08\/PDSACycleTemplate.pdf\">Test and implement system changes using plan-do-study-act (PDSA) cycles<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Understand how to use seven basic quality tools<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Measure process and outcome changes using the basic quality tools<\/p>\n<h2>QI Program Requirements<\/h2>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Meet with selected QI faculty advisor at least twice (once at the beginning to discuss the project and develop a plan and once during the closeout)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Complete all required readings and IHI modules<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Select QI project and <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.research.unc.edu\/irb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">submit application for IRB approval<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Conduct QI project<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Submit <a href=\"\/pediatrics\/files\/2018\/08\/FinalReportTemplate.pdf\">final report<\/a> to selected QI faculty advisor and the QI program manager<\/p>\n<h2>Recommended Timeline for QI Project Requirements<\/h2>\n<p><b>January \u2013 June of PL-2 Year<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Select a project to join or create your own project<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Contact a faculty member to serve as advisor<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.research.unc.edu\/irb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Submit application for IRB approval<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Most QI projects are exempt from IRB approval, but it is still necessary to complete this IRB form. Once the application is submitted, it takes less than 10 business days for approval.
