DESCRIPTION:Exploring shared decision-making between Latina mothers and pediatric mental health providers\nDeshira Wallace\, PhD\, MSPH\nAssistant Professor\nUNC Department of Health Behavior\nCarolina Population Center – Faculty Fellow\n3116 Mary Ellen Jones \nLunch Provided\nor\nZoom by Request\n\nDeshira Wallace\, PhD\, MSPH (she/her) is an assistant professor at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Department of Health Behavior and is a Faculty Fellow at the Carolina Population Center. Dr. Wallace’s work is focused on the role of stressors\, psychosocial\, environmental\, and structural\, on chronic conditions among minoritized populations. She also works at the intersection of mental and emotional health and physical health. Her work is focused on Latino populations in the US and rural communities in the Dominican Republic\, in which she uses both qualitative and quantitative methods to explore the role of stress on chronic conditions. Recent work includes: (1) integrating emotional and mental health into diabetes care in rural Dominican Republic; (2) examining the role of heat stress on the health of farmworkers in eastern North Carolina (3) developing measures of psychosocial distress to support patient-provider interactions. Dr. Wallace earned her PhD in Health Behavior from UNC-Chapel Hill and a BA in Environmental Sciences and Policy from Duke University. \n\nThe School of Medicine of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.\nThe School of Medicine of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s).
