Jackie Patterson is a neonatologist and implementation scientist with expertise in technology-based interventions to improve perinatal mortality in low and lower-middle income countries. Dr. Shaw is a Lasker Clinical Research Scholar and PI of the Pediatric Neuroendocrinology Group in the Clinical Research Branch of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Her research group has three major interests: to investigate the contributions of body weight, abnormal sleep patterns, and other environmental factors to irregular menstrual cycles in adolescent girls; to determine the influence of obesity on pubertal timing in girls; and to determine the genetic architecture of Bosma Arhinia Microphthalmia Syndrome.

Dr. Kappelman is a pediatric gastroenterologist whose research interests focus on using real-world data to define the burden of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), elucidate the risk factors for developing IBD, study the safety, effectiveness, and comparative effectiveness of different treatment options, and to measure and improve the quality of care delivered to this patient population.

Food allergy prevention: The rubber hits the road

Dr. Keet conducts clinical, epidemiologic and translational research aimed at better understanding and treating pediatric allergic diseases, particularly food allergies. Dr. Keet’s NIH funded research focuses on the epidemiology and treatment of food allergy and other pediatric allergic diseases. She focuses on characterizing the “food allergy epidemic”, identifying environmental risk factors for food allergy and other allergic diseases, and on prevention and treatment of food allergy.

Metabolic Mechanisms in Nutritional Immunology

Dr. MacIver is a pediatric endocrinologist with a research interest in immunometabolism and a strong focus on basic science. Her laboratory is broadly interested in how large changes in nutritional status (e.g. undernutrition or obesity) and nutritionally regulated hormones (leptin, insulin, IGF-1, IL-6) alter T cell metabolism and function in the context of infection, autoimmunity, and cancer.
