The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization\u2019s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. The NC Children&#8217;s Allergy and Asthma Center is the only pediatric asthma program in the southeastern United States to be certified by the Joint Commission Certification and is only one of eleven programs with this distinction throughout the nation.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe certification recognizes health care organizations that provide clinical programs across the continuum of care for children with asthma. The certification evaluates how organizations use clinical outcomes and performance measures to identify opportunities to improve care, as well as to educate and prepare patients and their caregivers for discharge.<\/p>\n<p>UNC Children\u2019s recently participated in an extensive review by a team of Joint Commission reviewers in which the program was evaluated on compliance with related certification standards through onsite observation and interviews. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that offers an unbiased assessment of quality achievement in patient care and safety.<\/p>\n<p>The successful survey was the result of a comprehensive team effort. UNC Children\u2019s interdisciplinary asthma team includes a variety of providers who collaborate to care for inpatients, outpatients, and children with acute and chronic conditions living in the community.<br \/>\n<div class=\"row  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<div class=\"col-lg-4 col-md-4 col-xs-12 col-sm-12 oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\nOur broad team of partners include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pediatric allergists<\/li>\n<li>Pediatric pulmonologists<\/li>\n<li>Certified asthma educators (AE-C\u00ae)<\/li>\n<li>Certified respiratory therapists (CRT)<\/li>\n<li>Spanish interpreters<\/li>\n<li>Care coordinators<\/li>\n<li>Social Workers<\/li>\n<li>Child Life Specialists<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-lg-8 col-md-8 col-xs-12 col-sm-12 oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jointcommission.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/pediatrics\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1115\/2024\/12\/IMG_JCHO-Gold-Seal.png\" alt=\"The Joint Commission logo that links to the Joint Commission homepage\" width=\"350\" height=\"350\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/pediatrics\/people\/stephanie-d-davis-md\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Dr. Stephanie Davis<\/strong><\/a>, the Edward C.
