Kendig Jr. Award<\/a> to <strong>Margaret \u201cMagee\u201d W. Leigh, MD.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Leigh, a recent retiree, served as a faculty member in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/pediatrics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Pediatrics<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/pediatrics\/pulm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pulmonary Division<\/a> for over 40 years. Throughout her tenure, she has provided care for children with chronic lung diseases, taught medical students, residents and pulmonary fellows and engaged in research of chronic lung diseases with a specific focus on cystic fibrosis and primary ciliary dyskinesia.<\/p>\n<p>During her career, Dr. Leigh has received numerous awards and honors including, the Teaching Award from the Pediatric Residents, the UNC Department of Pediatrics Faculty Mentor Award, and the American Thoracic Society Pediatric Assembly\u2019s Lifetime Contribution to Pediatric Respiratory Medicine Award. She also received the Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia Foundation Award for 15 years of dedication, perseverance, and passion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>She has written almost 30 book chapters and over 125 refereed research articles. Her research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia Foundation, European Commission, and the American Lung Association.<\/p>\n<p>This award was established in 2001 in honor of Edwin L. Kendig, Jr, a pioneer in the study of pulmonary disease in children. For this biannual award, the AAP Section on Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine recognizes one individual for lifetime achievement in the field of pediatric pulmonology based on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Distinguished clinical service and dedication to patient care<\/li>\n<li>Significant contribution to clinical or basic science research in the field of pediatric pulmonology<\/li>\n<li>Dedication to the education of pediatric pulmonary fellows or students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Congratulations Magee!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The AAP Section on Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine recently presented the 2025 Edwin L.
