The team received $40,000\u00a0from the SOM Office of Research Emerging Challenges in Biomedical Research (ECBR) in support of their pilot project\u00a0\u201cDevelopment of a human lymphoid organoid model to study food allergy immunotherapy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The project is a collaboration with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/cellbiophysio\/directory\/scott-randell-phd\/\">Scott Randell, PhD<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Cell Biology &amp; Physiology),\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/cellbiophysio\/directory\/phillip-clapp-phd\/\">Phillip Clapp, PhD<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Cell Biology &amp; Physiology),\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/ent\/directory\/adam-j-kimple-md\/\">Adam Kimple, MD, PhD<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Otolaryngology), will develop human lymphoid organoids to study food allergy immunotherapy. Their proposal,\u00a0<strong><em>Development of a Human Lymphoid Organoid Model to Study Food Allergy Immunotherapy<\/em><\/strong>, aims to identify Th1-promoting adjuvants that enhance the efficacy of sublingual immunotherapy for peanut allergy.<\/p>\n<p>The School of Medicine Office of Research sponsors an annual pilot program, Emerging Challenges in Biomedical Research (ECBR), that provides support for innovative, early-stage research relevant to external strategic priorities. The fall 2025 round of funding was focused on advancing translational biomedical research through the use or development of New Approach Methodologies\/Non-Animal Models (NAMs) and New Approach Technologies (NATs).
