{"id":36462,"date":"2024-05-21T12:33:58","date_gmt":"2024-05-21T16:33:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/pediatrics\/?post_type=ud_entry&#038;p=36462"},"modified":"2025-06-03T16:22:22","modified_gmt":"2025-06-03T20:22:22","slug":"michael-kappelman-md-mph","status":"publish","type":"ud_entry","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/pediatrics\/people\/michael-kappelman-md-mph\/","title":{"rendered":"Michael Kappelman, MD, MPH"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Kappelman is a physician scientist specializing in the field of Pediatric Gastroenterology.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Kappelman\u2019s research interests focus on using real-world data to 1) define the burden of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) (prevalence, costs, healthcare utilization, quality of life, disease complications), 2) elucidate the risk factors for developing IBD, 3) study the safety, effectiveness, and comparative effectiveness of different treatment options, and 4) measure and improve the quality of care delivered to this patient population.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Kappelman collaborates with colleagues across UNC\u2019s campus, nationally, and internationally. Many of these collaborations have led to multi-center observational clinical and translational studies, for which he has served as a co-investigator or UNC site PI.
