Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), Ranchi

Central Institute of Psychiatry is a premier institution for mental health in India. The British established this hospital on 17th May, 1918 with the name of Ranchi European Lunatic Asylum. CIP, Ranchi has come a long way covering a journey of 100 years witnessing many transitions and at the same time taking the credit of development of a comprehensive mental health service delivery center with many innovations in the field of mental health and neurosciences including clinical services, state of art research and manpower training in the country. Spread across 211 acres in the picturesque city of Ranchi, today, CIP offers the latest medical advances in an environment that promotes mental health and enhances a sense of well-being.

The institute caters, on an annual basis, to more than 85,000 patients, generates more than 130 research publications and presentations and trains more than 50 personnel trained in the field of mental health and neurosciences. The institute is equipped with the best possible facilities including state-of-the-art psychosocial department, most advanced brain stimulation and neurophysiology laboratory, state-of-the-art neuroimaging center with high end 3 Tesla functional MRI system and one of the most well-stocked medical libraries in the country. CIP has continued to gain importance and national/international recognition as a center of repute and excellence.

Department of Psychiatry of Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi is one of the oldest and largest departments in the country. It has a bed strength of 643, and an annual out-patient attendance of 25,000 new patients, and 80,000 old patient catering to the needs of the north and eastern parts of India. Centre for Investigational Medicine at CIP, Ranchi has state-of-the-art equipment and well-staffed laboratory.
