With the motto lux, libertas (light and liberty) the University of North Carolina has affirmed its commitment to the principles of transparency and personal freedom. The University is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment and to ensuring that educational and employment decisions are based on individuals’ abilities and qualifications. Consistent with these principles and applicable laws, it is therefore our policy not to discriminate on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation or veteran status, as articulated in the University’s Policy on Prohibited Discrimination, Harassment and Related Misconduct.
The Department of Pharmacology welcomes individuals of all background to join us in our research endeavors. Our commitment to improving diversity, equity and inclusion is unwavering. Our goals are to
1) recruit and develop a diverse group of students, faculty and staff that reflect our local community, and
2) create an equitable and inclusive environment that promotes growth and success for everyone.
Together with the School of Medicine and The Office of Inclusive Excellence, we are implementing several approaches to help us reach these goals. For more information or to address any concerns please contact our Diversity and Inclusion Liason Dr. Maria Aleman at email@example.com
A special message in response to the COVID-19 pandemic
Even as many of us are working remotely, we are here to support you. In particular, we urge everyone in the department to support our Chinese and Asian colleagues by being allies, calling out discriminatory behavior whenever possible, and by checking in on each other. These are stressful times, even in the absence of xenophobia. We are all in this together.
We wish to reiterate that the department values each of you and recognizes the important contributions you make. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable work environment and we strongly denounce all prejudice. If you have experienced any racism, due to the COVID-19 pandemic or otherwise, you can reach out to our department’s Diversity & Inclusion Liaison (firstname.lastname@example.org), or to the Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office (https://eoc.unc.edu).
