Dr. R. Jude Samulski has received the first ever Outstanding Achievement Award given by the American Society for Gene Therapy. Dr. Samulski, the director of the Gene Therapy Center at UNC and member of Linberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, received the award on May 31 at the ASGT’s annual meeting in Boston. He was selected from a pool of 13 nominees from across the country.

The ASGT Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes an ASGT active member who has achieved a pioneering research success, a specific high impact accomplishment, or a lifetime of significant scientific contributions to the field of gene therapy. As the award’s first winner, Samulski was recognized at the ASGT 2008 annual meeting during the 2008 presidential symposium and presented a plenary lecture highlighting his scientific accomplishments that led to the award.
