Research from the Song Lab, published in Neuron, and recently featured in national media, shows that a short-term high-fat diet disrupts memory processing by inducing hyperactivity in hippocampal neurons.

The Song Lab found that higher consumption of processed red meats, such as bacon, sausage, and hot dogs, was associated with a higher risk of developing dementia and faster cognitive decline over time.

The findings also suggest that replacing processed red meat with healthier protein sources like fish, nuts, and legumes may help support long-term brain health.
