Congratulations to our own rising PGY-3 Dr. Hagar Elgendy! Dr. Elgendy was elected as the Co-President of the UNC House Staff Council. Working directly with Graduate Medical Education leadership and UNCH leadership, Dr Elgendy will lead and stand as a voice for 1,100 residents and fellows of UNC.
Dr. Elgendy has dedicated her efforts this past year in advocating for greater compensation for trainees and achieved an incentive bonus with a plan 2.5% salary increase in the upcoming year. She adjusted a previous salary discrepancy in PGY6-7 years from $400 to that of $4,000. She stood alongside UNC health foundation to assist in allocating funds to the greatest need of trainees. She established the hospitals first 24 hour dispatch police escort line to ensure the safety of our trainees.
Dr. Elgendy is actively working to advocate for improved allocation of freedom pay funding, flexibility in parking permits, improved accessibility of the Taking Care of Our Own program targeted at improving mental health and well being, and improved childcare support.
