class=\"section-som\"><span>Residency Program Aims<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Our foundational teaching philosophy is to provide a superb, well-rounded clinical education, and we have trained many successful graduates since the program was established in 1999. Based at a public, tertiary care hospital and level I trauma center, our program provides trainees with exposure to complex and challenging clinical problems. Residents interact daily with skilled faculty members and are provided mentorship and practical experience that prepares them to excel in any clinical environment.<\/p>\n<p>Graduates of UNC PM&amp;R serve their patients through clinical excellence and compassionate care. They also support efforts in education, outreach, research, leadership, innovation and the responsible utilization of resources. <span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX0 SCXW185416568\">We provide our\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun ContextualSpellingAndGrammarErrorV2 BCX0 SCXW185416568\">graduates<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX0 SCXW185416568\"> the tools needed to deliver inclusive care and exceptional support for diverse populations, including those from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds.\u00a0<\/span>While many of our alumni pursue fellowship and subspecialty training, we ensure that all of our graduates develop broad competencies and are well-prepared to attain board certification in Physical Medicine &amp; Rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>At UNC, we strive to provide a rigorous educational experience coupled with strong support for resident wellness and a healthy work-life balance. The long-term success of our program and its graduates is tied to our ability to cultivate a culture of teamwork, resilience and sense of purpose in our faculty, residents, students and staff. The physiatrists lead interdisciplinary teams that work with the patient and family to achieve maximal development or restoration of physical, psychological, social, occupational, and vocational functions.<br \/>\n<h2 class=\"section-som\"><span>Opportunities<\/span><\/h2>\nOur residency program offers a wide range of clinical, educational, and research opportunities that include balanced clinical experiences, organized educational programs, and daily interactions with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/phyrehab\/about-us\/faculty-staff\/faculty\/\">experienced faculty<\/a>. Residents are also invited to join the UNC PM&amp;R Wellness Committee, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/phyrehab\/other-programs\/wellness-committee\/\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the faculty in Physical Medicine &amp; Rehabilitation, residents also work with faculty in other departments, including Rheumatology, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Anesthesiology, Urology, General Surgery, Pediatrics, and Plastic Surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Other opportunities include the Carolina Performing Arts coverage, as well as exposure to NFL Brain and Body Program, Eric Montross Basketball Camp, the TelAbility Program, and participation in professional conferences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Carolina First Look is an opportunity for medical students to virtually visit the UNC SOM &amp; HCS.
