Dealing with mental illness in the family can be stressful for everyone involved. Everyone in the family can benefit from developing good stress management skills. These include:

  • Getting enough rest
  • Eating nutritious meals
  • Exercising regularly
  • Talking with friends and family
  • Doing things you enjoy
  • Finding time to practice your faith
  • Engaging in meditation or prayer

In today’s busy world, you may think you do not have time to do these things. But if you can make them part of your daily schedule, you will find that you are better able to do the things you need to do and to meet life’s challenges. Recognize when you need to take a break, and help other family members do the same.
