Thava Mahadevan receives a Leadership Triangle Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Thava Mahadevan, MS, director of operations at the Center and at the UNC Farm at Penny Lane, received a Leadership Triangle Award for strategic partnerships on December 9 at the Triangle Leadership Gala, held in Bay 7 at Durham\u2019s American Tobacco Campus.<\/p>\n

Mahadevan\u2019s award recognizes his leadership in coordinating Tiny Homes collaborators in Chatham County. The Tiny Homes project will be located on The Farm at Penny Lane Campus.<\/p>\n

These awards recognize community leaders who are regionally minded and who exhibit that frame of mind in their personal and professional lives. Award categories include strategic partnerships, arts, sports or entertainment, economic development, community service, and Leadership Triangle Alumni (Goodmon Fellows).<\/p>\n

Grayson Bowen receives NAMI Advocate of the Year award<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Grayson Bowen, coordinator of the UNC Brushes with Life Arts Program, received the NAMI North Carolina Advocate of the Year Award on October 25 at an awards luncheon held at the Jane S. McKimmon Center in Raleigh.<\/p>\n

The award is given to an individual who has had a significant impact on the lives of people living with mental illness, and their families, in a local community.<\/p>\n

An excerpt from Grayson\u2019s nomination reads, \u201cDaily he uses his talents of art and peer support to enrich the lives of those around him struggling with the same types of issues. He organizes gallery shows to showcase client work, teaches art groups, champions peer support, and spreads awareness of recovery. Outside of his job, Grayson takes any opportunity to educate and advocate for Mental Health awareness. This year he has started a healing arts class that has been presented to clients in the community, students at UNC, and will be part of a professional development conference for nurses at UNC. Additionally, he frequently sits on panels, speaks at NAMI Family to Family classes, and has just started writing a book on mental illness.\u201d<\/p>\n
