{"id":4989,"date":"2018-12-17T16:12:53","date_gmt":"2018-12-17T21:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/psych\/cecmh\/?p=4989"},"modified":"2018-12-20T12:28:02","modified_gmt":"2018-12-20T17:28:02","slug":"the-center-is-expanding-its-mobile-health-clinic-through-a-collaboration-with-the-foundation-of-hope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/psych\/cecmh\/the-center-is-expanding-its-mobile-health-clinic-through-a-collaboration-with-the-foundation-of-hope\/","title":{"rendered":"The Center is expanding its mobile health clinic through a collaboration with the Foundation of Hope"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UNC Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health and the UNC School of Nursing will collaborate with the Foundation of Hope to expand the Center\u2019s mobile clinic, UNC Wellness on Wheels (W.O.W) program, and provide services two days a week to individuals with serious mental health challenges who live in Wake County. \u00a0The Foundation has committed $65,500 for the one-year pilot program.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-5052 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/psych\/cecmh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/880\/2018\/12\/Wellness-in-Wheels-300x122.png\" alt=\"Wellness in Wheels\" width=\"300\" height=\"122\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/psych\/cecmh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/880\/2018\/12\/Wellness-in-Wheels-300x122.png 300w, https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/psych\/cecmh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/880\/2018\/12\/Wellness-in-Wheels-768x312.png 768w, https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/psych\/cecmh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/880\/2018\/12\/Wellness-in-Wheels.png 966w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\u201cWellness on Wheels is an innovative dynamic approach to providing comprehensive integrated care (medical and mental health care) for individuals with serious mental health and addictive disorders,\u201d said Thava Mahadevan, MS, director of operations at the Center.<\/p>\n<p>Mobile health clinics reduce geographical, psychological and financial barriers to health care for people who lack transportation and access to comprehensive psychiatric treatment and rehabilitation and basic medical care.\u00a0 Collaborators hope the clinic will become a model for other potential mobile health clinics across North Carolina and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Operating out of the Center\u2019s\u00a0 mobile clinic (a 35-foot state of the art vehicle), the Wake County program will operate at locations in Raleigh, Zebulon, Wake Forest and Fuquay-Varina, where the Center\u2019s Wake STEP currently serves individuals with serious mental illness. The mobile clinic\u2019s integrated health team will provide mental health care management, recovery\/rehabilitation service as well as basic preventive primary care and wellness education during visits.\u00a0 After an initial start-up with STEP patients, the clinic will expand services to additional patients in Wake County.
