NC Community Psychiatrists\u2019 Leadership Network Video Conference features Carrie Brown, MD, MPH<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Center\u2019s Community Psychiatrists\u2019 Leadership Network Video Conference Series launch featured Carrie L. Brown, MD, MPH, and chief medical officer for Behavioral Health & IDD, at the NC Department of Health and Human Services.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

The October 8 event, specifically designed for community psychiatrists, is the first in a series to update community psychiatrists and other physicians working in behavioral health about the State\u2019s Medicaid Transformation and to provide information and discussions on other important topics. Psychiatry residents around the State were also invited to participate. The series is a collaboration with NC AHEC.<\/p>\n

Discussion topics included: A look at NC House Bill 630, which changed involuntary commitment\u00a0laws in North Carolina October 1 and an update on NC Medicaid Transformation.<\/p>\n

John Gilmore, MD, director of the NC Community Psychiatrists\u2019 Leadership Network, vice chair of Research and Scientific Affairs at UNC Psychiatry, and director of the UNC Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health hosted the video conference.<\/p>\n

Hope Grows Here celebrates the Center\u2019s Sixth Annual No Limits Gala <\/strong><\/h4>\n

More than 120 Center friends and supporters celebrated the evening with a new format that included a wandering dinner, live music by Souljam, as well as a silent auction. Michael Williams, chair of the Center”s Advisory Board, hosted the evening.<\/p>\n

John Gilmore, MD, director of the Center, welcomed guests and introduced Samantha Meltzer-Brody, MD, MPH, the new chair of UNC Psychiatry, who gave brief remarks.<\/p>\n

Following the silent auction, Gilmore presented the Center\u2019s Community Mental Health Advocacy Award to Representative Verla Insko. The award is given annually to a community leader who supports the community in improving mental health through education and advocacy. Rep. Insko spoke briefly about her experiences and desire to support individuals with mental illness.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a special pleasure to honor Rep. Verla Insko for her many years of persistent advocacy in the state legislature for a public mental health system that provides what individuals with mental health challenges need to recover and to return to a meaningful life,\u201d said Gilmore.<\/p>\n
