<\/p>\nRebecca Bottom, MD, joined the Center in June 2019 as a staff psychiatrist at the Wake STEP Clinic and an assistant professor in UNC Psychiatry. She works with a multi-disciplinary team to support the wellness of individuals with persistent mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
She also collaborates with the UNC Women\u2019s Mood Disorders Program and\u00a0 the N.C. Maternal Mental Health MATTERS Program to consult with obstetricians who care for pregnant and postpartum women with psychiatric illnesses. Additionally, Bottom is involved in training psychiatry residents as well as\u00a0medical students.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are welcoming back to the Department of Psychiatry one of our most talented recent residency program graduates,” said Austin Hall, MD, associate professor, medical director for the Center. \u201cRebecca is going to be a tremendous asset to our work at Wake STEP and a key contributor to fulfilling the Center\u2019s mission.\u201d<\/p>\n
Prior to joining the Center, Bottom was an assistant professor of clinical psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine. She worked in an outpatient clinic treating adults with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders and collaborated with primary care physicians to help support the mental health needs of their patients.<\/p>\n
Bottom is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Louisville and completed a psychiatry residency and served as chief resident at the UNC School of Medicine. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the North Carolina Psychiatric Association, Postpartum Support International, Marc\u00e9 of North America, and the Marc\u00e9 Society.<\/p>\n
