Dr. Patterson is an Assistant Professor at UNC with joint appointments in the Departments of Psychiatry and Emergency Medicine. Dr. Patterson is the Director of Perinatal Psychiatry & UNC Perinatal Psychiatry Inpatient Unit. She also offers women treatment with Brexanolone, a new FDA approved medication, indicated for postpartum depression. Additionally, Dr. Patterson spends half of her clinical time as an attending for the Psychiatric Emergency Service where she manages patients with acute crises in the emergency department and staffs cases with advanced practice practitioners, licensed clinical social workers, psychiatric residents/interns, and medical students. Dr. Patterson is fellowship boarded in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and her areas of academic interest include women’s mood disorders and the effects on family dynamics during this critical period in the family’s development. Dr. Patterson is also involved in clinical trial research including esketamine and brexanolone.
