Summary Statement:

Dr. Brownley serves as the department’s liaison to the School of Medicine Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and she directs the department’s internal Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program. In addition, Dr. Brownley serves as the Director of Research Training and Compliance for the department – a role that builds on her expertise in research ethics and human subjects research regulations and policy. Dr. Brownley is a Certified Institutional Review Board (IRB) Professional, UNC IRB Chair, former Interim Director of the UNC Office of Human Research Ethics, a member of the UNC Scientific Review Committee, and co-Director of the UNC Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute (NC TraCS) Regulatory Services. Prior to taking on these roles, Dr. Brownley was a Principal Investigator whose research encompassed various aspects of human psychology, physiology, and behavior and focused on the psychobiology of appetite regulation including the study of hormones that signal hunger and satiety, how such hormones respond to different types of food, and the role that these hormones play in disordered eating behavior and weight gain.
