The Department’s Posttraumatic and Acute Trauma Treatment Program (PTATT) came into existence in October 2021 for the purpose of providing expert treatment for children, adults, and families struggling active symptoms of trauma including those that have been brought on during or because of the COVID 19 pandemic.  PTATT’s seven part time clinicians have undergone extensive specialized training and supervision in evidence-based practice and some of the services underway in PTATT are:

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention

Parent Child Interaction Therapy

Cognitive Processing Therapy

Prolonged Exposure

Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga

Adjunctive Therapy (i.e., TCTSY)

Trauma-informed Group Therapy and

Psychological evaluations and abuse-specific assessments

PTATT accepts referrals from within UNC and now the greater community, nearly 90 referrals have been received in year one with patients being fitted with the clinician and type of evidence-based practice that uniquely meets their trauma symptoms, age, and capacity to engage in treatment. Services are provided in English and Spanish, as well as in-person and virtual. Clinical care and training goals are progressing with trainees in clinical psychology and social work currently but with plans to expand. In Y2 PTATT is looking forward to engaging with a research clinician who can possibly assist with some a small quality assurance study and also obtaining funds, likely philanthropic, to increase the number of our clinicians and forms of treatment.
