The EDU follows family-based treatment (FBT) principles with children and adolescents and aims to actively engage the family in treatment. Group and individual psychological treatment incorporate principles from enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-E), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and acceptance and commitment therapy.<\/p>\n<p>On the EDU, interns gain experience working with a highly interactive multidisciplinary team (e.g., physicians, nurses, dieticians, social workers, and other allied health professionals). Interns are actively involved in assessment, diagnosis, and case conceptualization and play an active role in our treatment team meetings.\u00a0\u00a0Interns conduct twice weekly individual psychotherapy and follow inpatients for the length of their stay.\u00a0 Interns also lead group psychotherapy (group modalities may include CBT-E, DBT, etc). Interns may also participate in family meetings with our unit social worker and may have the opportunity to supervise graduate-level psychology practicum students.<\/p>\n<p>The ED track intern\u00a0spends\u00a0approximately 8 hours per week on the inpatient eating disorders unit across the year.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"supervisors\">Supervisor: Mae Lynn Reyes-Rodriguez, PhD<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-1\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h2 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-1\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-1\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"false\" \n                href=\"#details-0-1\">\n                CEED Outpatient Program            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h2>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-1\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p>In the outpatient clinic, the intern will participate in the provision of evidence-based treatments for\u00a0both adolescent and adult patients with eating disorders across the diagnostic spectrum.<\/p>\n<p>Interns will gain experience in\u00a0comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment\u00a0of\u00a0eating disorders, including\u00a0case formulation and treatment planning from\u00a0several\u00a0evidence-based\u00a0theoretical perspectives. Treatment modalities commonly offered in this clinic include\u00a0CBT-E and FBT.\u00a0Cases\u00a0will be assigned based on intern interest and training goals.<\/p>\n<p>The ED track intern spends\u00a0approximately 8\u00a0-12 hours per week\u00a0in the CEED outpatient program\u00a0across the year.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"supervisors\">Supervisors: Camden Matherne, PhD; Christine M. Peat, PhD, FAED<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-2\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h2 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-2\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-2\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"false\" \n                href=\"#details-0-2\">\n                UNC Bariatric Surgery Program            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h2>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-2\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p>The UNC Bariatric Surgery Program is a designated Center of Excellence with the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program\u00a0that includes multidisciplinary providers\u00a0including:\u00a0surgeons, nurse practitioners, dieticians, and psychologists. The intern will gain experience with conducting pre-surgical psychological evaluations to determine candidacy for bariatric surgery. During the evaluation clinic, the intern will become proficient in independently conducting evaluations, determining candidacy for surgery, and working as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team. The intern will also have the opportunity to work with post-surgical patients and provide psychological interventions aimed at helping patients with adjusting to the myriad lifestyle and dietary changes, addressing any psychiatric symptoms that arise, as well as treating any eating pathology that may present. As a result, there are opportunities to follow a patient\u2019s entire surgery journey from pre-surgical candidacy through post-surgical adjustment and management.<\/p>\n<p>The ED track intern spends approximately 4 hours\/week in the UNC Bariatric Surgery Program throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"supervisors\">Supervisors: Christine M. Supervisors in each of the clinical rotations will deliver practical training that will equip the intern to provide evidence-based intervention relevant to each clinical setting. Our research goals are to develop a deeper understanding of the causes of eating disorders and to create more effective diagnostic, treatment, and prevention strategies for eating disorders.\u00a0Our work encompasses inquiries into genetic and environmental causes of eating disorders, prevention of eating disorders, and the development of effective treatments for anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. With active collaborations in over 21 countries around the world, our work is truly global. Our projects extend from cell to society and employ contemporary methods to decode the causes of eating disorders. As an interdisciplinary research team, we bring varied perspectives together to advance science. Interns may elect to spend up to\u00a0eight\u00a0hours per week involved in research\u00a0at CEED.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default
