The UNC Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship program\u00a0is a one-year, PGY-5, ACGME-approved training program.\u00a0 We welcome applicants who have completed their four-year general psychiatry residency program and are interested\u00a0in additional training in the care of older adults.\u00a0 We are currently accepting one fellow per academic year.\u00a0 Our fellowship is designed to train clinicians to become educators, leaders, and experts in the field by providing intensive, individualized, and extensive training.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Geriatric psychiatrists address a variety of issues, including:<\/strong><\/h4>\n
Mental health issues in older adults<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 specialized care for older adults who have either lifelong or new mental health conditions in late life.<\/div>\n
Neurocognitive disorders<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 comprehensive evaluations and personalized treatment plans to manage symptoms for people with all types of dementia.<\/div>\n
Psychiatric issues complicated by medical issues and geriatric syndromes<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 addressing emotional, cognitive, and functional concerns to enhance overall well-being and independence.<\/div>\n
