The addiction consult service performs in-person consults on patients admitted to UNC Medical Center. Primary teams request consults for management of opioid use disorder (including withdrawal management and opioid agonist treatment with methadone and buprenorphine) as well as assistance with alcohol withdrawal and medication management of alcohol use disorder. The addiction consult team also receives consults related to stimulant, sedative-hypnotic, and cannabinoid use. Fellows are supervised by addiction medicine faculty with backgrounds in psychiatry, anesthesiology\/pain medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-1\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h3 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-1\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-1\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"false\" \n                href=\"#details-0-1\">\n                Pain Consult Service Rotation            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h3>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-1\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\nFellows spend 1 month (in the mornings) on the inpatient pain consult service, which is run by the UNC Department of Anesthesiology. Fellows work with anesthesiology attendings and residents as well as pain medicine fellows in performing in-person consults for patients hospitalized at UNC Medical Center who need pain management services.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-2\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h3 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-2\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-2\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"false\" \n                href=\"#details-0-2\">\n                Horizons Residential Program Rotation            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h3>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-2\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p>Fellows spend 1 month (in the mornings) working with the UNC Horizons residential treatment program, which is operated by the UNC Department of Obstetrics &amp; Gynecology. This nationally recognized program treats pregnant and parenting women with co-occurring substance use disorders. Fellows participate in medication management of patients\u2019 substance use disorders as well as the group therapy that is offered to the patients enrolled in this residential program.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-3\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h3 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-3\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-3\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"false\" \n                href=\"#details-0-3\">\n                New Waters Recovery Detox Rotation            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h3>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-3\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p>Fellows spend 1 month (in the mornings) working at the New Waters Recovery inpatient withdrawal management (ie, \u201cdetox\u201d) unit located in Raleigh. New Waters Recovery is a privately operated substance use treatment program that offers non-hospital withdrawal management services. Patients who are admitted to New Waters Recovery have access to medication management, massage, yoga, and acupuncture. Fellows are supervised by New Waters Recovery physician staff during this rotation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-4\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h3 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-4\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-4\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"false\" \n                href=\"#details-0-4\">\n                Tobacco Consult Service Rotation            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h3>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-4\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p>Fellows spend 1 afternoon per week for 6 months working with the UNC Tobacco Treatment Program, providing consults for patients who are potentially interested in tobacco and electronic cigarette cessation. These consults are in-person and also virtual. The UNC Department of Family Medicine oversees this service.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-5\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h3 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-5\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-5\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"false\" \n                href=\"#details-0-5\">\n                SouthLight Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) Rotation            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h3>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-5\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p>Fellows spend 2 months (in the mornings) rotating at SouthLight Healthcare, the largest OTP in Raleigh. Fellows work with the SouthLight provider staff offering outpatient methadone maintenance therapy as well as buprenorphine treatment on-site.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-6\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h3 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-6\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-6\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"false\" \n                href=\"#details-0-6\">\n                Hepatology Rotation            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h3>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-6\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\nFellows spend 1 month (in the mornings) on the inpatient hepatology consult service, which is run by the UNC Division of Gastroenterology &amp; Hepatology. Fellows work with gastroenterology attendings and fellows in performing inpatient consults at UNC Medical Center. In addition, fellows spend time in the UNC IHEAL (Integrated Healthcare for Alcohol Use and Liver Disease) Clinic. The IHEAL Clinic serves patients with alcohol-related liver disease, and fellows participate in assessing and treating the patients served in this clinic.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-7\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h3 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-7\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-7\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"false\" \n                href=\"#details-0-7\">\n                Substance Treatment and Recovery (STAR) Clinic Rotation            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h3>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-7\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p>During their 12-month fellowship, fellows spend multiple afternoons per week in STAR Clinic. Fellows offer both virtual and in-person substance use treatment services in this clinic, which serves patients throughout the entire state of North Carolina. In addition to managing patients\u2019 substance use disorders, fellows treat patients\u2019 psychiatric co-morbidities and offer hepatitis C treatment in STAR Clinic.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-8\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h3 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-8\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-8\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"false\" \n                href=\"#details-0-8\">\n                ATLAS (Addiction Treatment: Linking Access and Services) Mobile Clinic            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h3>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-8\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p>Fellows spend time with UNC ATLAS, a mobile clinic that travels to Robeson County on a weekly basis and provides substance use treatment (focusing on opioid use disorder) to a medically underserved area with a significant Lumbee Native American population.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-9\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h3 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-9\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-9\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"false\" \n                href=\"#details-0-9\">\n                Elective Rotation            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h3>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-9\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p>Fellows spend 1 month (in the mornings) on an elective rotation of their choosing. The UNC Addiction Medicine faculty can assist fellows in devising their elective.
