General Psychiatry Residency Application Requirements<\/h2>\n

We are thrilled you are interested in applying to the UNC General Psychiatry Residency Program! Our four-year, ACGME-accredited residency program participates in the\u00a0NRMP Match<\/a>.\u00a0Applications<\/span>\u00a0must be submitted through\u00a0ERAS<\/a>\u00a0and are due by\u00a0November 1st<\/strong>, with\u00a0supporting documents<\/span>\u00a0due no later than\u00a0November 30th<\/strong>.\u00a0Once we have received your completed ERAS file, your application will receive careful consideration for an invitation to interview. Please note that visiting students are not automatically granted an interview.<\/p>\n

A completed application for residency will include:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. MSPE;\u00a0Applications<\/u>\u00a0must be submitted through\u00a0ERAS<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and are due by\u00a0November 1st<\/strong>,\u00a0with\u00a0supporting documents<\/u>\u00a0due no later than\u00a0November 30th<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. Official Medical School Transcripts;\u00a0IMG have at least\u00a0six months<\/strong>\u00a0of U.S. clinical experience and not be away from medical school, externships, or active practice for more than five years. (This requirement may not be applicable to US-trained DO applicants.)<\/li>\n
  3. Official USMLE Transcripts:
    \n– \u00a0a passing STEP 1 score is required for an interview
    \n– \u00a0a passing STEP 2 score is required for consideration;\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0–\u00a0 we acknowledge difficulty during this time and will consider individuals who could not take US MLE because of COVID-19 on a case by case basis. \u00a0J-1 visa <\/strong>accepted, but it must be obtained by the individual.   4. ECFMG Status Reports for all International Medical Graduates (see below for additional information); <\/i>See the answer above in question #5\u2013 must not be away from practice more than 5 years.<\/li>\n
  5. Two (2) or more Letters of Recommendation*, including:
    \n– \u00a0One (1) from\u00a0a psychiatrist\u00a0with whom you have worked
    \n– \u00a0One (1) from\u00a0a physician\u00a0(non-resident) who has knowledge
    \nof your experience, ability, educational accomplishments,
    \nand character
    \n– \u00a0An additional letter from a research\/graduate degree
    \nadvisor (if not as described above) may also be submitted<\/li>\n
  6. If applicable, letters from Training Directors of all current and\/or previous residency programs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    *Note: We no longer require a letter from the Chair of Psychiatry (or designee) at your institution.<\/em><\/p>\n
