The School of Medicine and UNC Health Care at UNC – Chapel Hill are part of the broader UNC University and Hospital systems throughout the state. While much of the General Psychiatry Residency training takes place in Chapel Hill, medical facilities such as Central Regional Hospital and other community psychiatry sites are fully integrated into the program. This offers residents a variety of unique clinical experiences beginning in PGY-1.<\/p>\n

Central Regional Hospital<\/h2>\n

Central Regional Hospital (CRH) is a freestanding state psychiatric hospital in Butner, NC (about 40 minutes from UNC). Here, patients with a wide spectrum of psychiatric disorders are treated, with a focus on those persons with severe and persistent mental illness.\u00a0300 Veazey Road, Butner, NC 27509<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

UNC Hospitals is a more than 900-bed teaching facility, and Psychiatry residents spend much of their time in the NC Neurosciences Hospital. At this site, trainees gain experience in seven distinct inpatient units and the Emergency Department, as well as rotations with UNC Neurology. At UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus, residents have the opportunity to rotate with UNC Family Medicine and UNC Internal Medicine in an 83-bed community hospital setting.<\/p>\n

The UNC Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic is located in the Dawson Hall Building at Vilcom in Chapel Hill, just 15 minutes from UNC Hospitals.
