teaching<\/h2>\n<p class=\" \">With a new curriculum launched in 2015, the clerkship is an integrated experience with Neurology: Care of Patients with Psychiatric and Neurological Disorders in the\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/md\/curriculum\/tec-curriculum-information\/application-phase\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Care of Specific Populations course<\/a>. \u00a0Our department prides itself on providing an incomparable educational experience for its medical students, and residents are\u00a0<strong>vital<\/strong>\u00a0to achieving that goal.\u00a0 Through the leadership of\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/psych\/directory\/erin-malloy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Erin Malloy<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/psych\/directory\/kenan-penaskovic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Kenan Penaskovic<\/a>, residents are taught to become teachers, educators, and leaders of medical student education.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\" \">Teaching opportunities<\/h2>\n<h3 class=\" \">Settings<\/h3>\n<p class=\" \">Resident teaching occurs in a variety of settings, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>inpatient,<\/li>\n<li>outpatient,<\/li>\n<li>emergency, and<\/li>\n<li>an Interview Skill Building program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\" \">PGY-1, PGY-2, PGY-3<\/h3>\n<p class=\" \">During the first three years of training, the resident is in\u00a0<strong>regular contact<\/strong>\u00a0with medical students and is expected to assume\u00a0<strong>considerable responsibility<\/strong>\u00a0for their clinical training by building the student&#8217;s knowledge and interview skills.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\" \">PGY-4<\/h3>\n<p class=\" \">In the fourth year, senior and chief residents continue to be teachers of medical students in a clinical setting, but are also given the opportunity to further their teaching abilities by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>educating younger residents,<\/li>\n<li>participating in didactics to medical students, and<\/li>\n<li>becoming evaluators of medical student progress<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These skills will serve the resident well in any team they work with in the future.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"viewlet-below-content-body\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"viewlet-below-content\">\n<div
