Food insecurity affects approximately 12% of Americans daily and with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic this number has increased drastically and has heavily impacted vulnerable populations who are food insecure. Thava Mahadevan and his team have been awarded Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Clinical Scholars COVID-19 Rapid Response Project Funding for their community engaged project “Heat and Eat Meals in Covid” with a goal of providing healthy nutritious cooked heat and eat meals to individuals living with two or more health risk factors so that they are able to have access to healthy meals during the pandemic without putting themselves at risk by going to the grocery store, food banks and soup kitchens. This projects looks to serve those living with serious mental illness, with a fixed income\/no income and people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
