We are pleased to announce that the application window is open for the Class of 2025 to participate in the Mauricio Castillo, MD Diversity and Inclusion Scholars program!

The Castillo Scholars program was designed to address the racial and gender disparities present in many medical specialties. This program seeks to provide educational, research, and mentorship opportunities for current minority medical students considering careers in Radiology, Anesthesiology, Urology, and Vascular Surgery.

For the program’s second year, we have 14 open spots to fill across 13 different specialties. Recipients will receive a $5000 stipend for participating. This 8-week summer enrichment opportunity begins June 1, 2022. To learn more, please visit the 2022 Castillo Scholars Program webpage.

During the 8-week summer experience, each student is assigned to a “home department” in one of the thirteen (13) specialties listed on the program page, with swap days and aggregated scholars’ days for further enrichment activities. The Castillo Scholars will engage in research, educational enrichment, clinical experiences, and one-on-one mentoring with faculty leaders. The program is led by Dr. Maureen Kohi, Dr. Sheryl Jordan, and Dr. Mauricio Castillo. Collectively, everyone’s efforts will ensure our Radiology Castillo Scholars achieve the best experience possible with clinical experiences, research, and educational enrichment.

For the program’s inaugural year (2021), summer stipends were awarded to five outstanding students! To learn more about them, please click here.

If you are interested in applying, please contact Paul Marini. The application window is currently open and the deadline to apply is Tuesday, February 15, 2022.
