The Consortium of Innovative Imaging and Intervention (CI³) is a collaborative hub dedicated to advancing the future of radiology. We bring together experts from basic science, engineering, imaging analysis, and clinical practice to drive breakthroughs that extend far beyond traditional approaches. We are housed in the UNC School of Medicine Department of Radiology and are comprised of clinical radiologists, imaging scientists, engineers, machine learning scientists, data engineers, clinicians, post-doctoral fellows, and students.

At CI³, we focus on developing and integrating novel imaging technologies with minimally invasive interventions to improve precision, safety, and outcomes for patients. By fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration, we accelerate the translation of scientific discovery into clinical impact.

Our work spans:

  • Basic Science Research – uncovering new insights into biology and disease.

  • Advanced Imaging Analysis – applying computational tools, AI, and quantitative methods to reveal deeper patterns in data.

  • Novel Imaging Modalities – exploring technologies that expand what radiology can see and do.

  • Minimally Invasive Procedures – refining image-guided therapies that reduce risk and recovery time.

United by innovation, our mission is not just to improve imaging and intervention, but to redefine what’s possible.
