The Department would like to belatedly recognize Assistant Professor of Radiology Dr. David Mauro for his selection and April 2018 induction into the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA), as one of four UNC School of Medicine (SOM) Alumni chosen for 2018 induction. Election to AOA signifies a member’s embodiment of AOA values, including scholarship, leadership, professionalism, research, altruism and clinical service. Alumni are selected for this prestigious honor for demonstrating lasting commitment to the SOM’s mission and activities.

Dr. Mauro completed medical school at UNC (2005-2009) and his Diagnostic Radiology residency (2010-2014) at the University of Virginia, serving as Chief Resident during his last year of training. A UNC faculty member since 2016, Dr. Mauro is a frequent instructor in the Department’s GME and UME programs. He speaks on IR-related topics at UNC tumor boards and MMWR conferences, and also serves on the Department’s VIR Fellowship Program Evaluation and Clinical Competency committees. Dr. Mauro has contributed to several case review textbooks and is published in multiple IR-articles refereed journals.

Fellow UNC AOA Alumnus member Dr. Sheri Jordan stated: “David’s induction into AOA was inevitable from the start – he is an indispensable member of our clinician educators team in his roles as associate program director x 2, educational liaison, student-resident mentor and career goal advisor (to name but a few). Department AOA members belatedly welcome him to our ranks!”
