For the 7th consecutive year, UNC Radiology’s Team X-Rayted participated in the global fundraising campaign MOVEMBER. Team X-Rayted raised over $10K of the $12K+ jointly contributed by UNC’s Department of Urology and Radiology. The joint funds support the Movember Foundation, an organization committed to advocacy and fundraising for men’s health programs focused on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, depression, suicide and physical inactivity. A leading charity committed to changing the face of men’s health, the Movember Foundation challenges participants to grow MO-staches during the month formerly known as November and ask friends and family to monetarily support their efforts. By Movember 30th, many male participants tap the inner stylist to groom their new facial hair. In recent years, female participants have also applied facial “Mo artistry” to also fundraise for the cause!

Over five years, the Movember Foundation has funded multiple prostate cancer projects across its consortium of 15 US institutions, including UNC. The University is funded to participate in several of these projects, including incorporating decision aids to help prostate cancer patients make a treatment decision, an educational intervention to help patients with sexual function recovery after treatment, and using survivorship care plan and navigation services to help patients receive the necessary post-treatment medical care and support. Dr. Ron Chen, Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology, is the UNC PI and also part of the Movember USA’s leadership team. Others, including Dr. Matt Nielsen and Mary Dunn of Urology, are also involved.
