Robert “Bob” G. Dixon, MD, FSIR

In March 2017, Interventional Radiology Program Director and Associate Professor of Radiology Dr. Robert G. Dixon was amongst 32 new Fellows who were inducted at SIR’s 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting in Washington, DC.

The Department of Radiology would like to recognize Associate Professor Dr. Robert Dixon for his March 2017 induction as a new Society of Interventional Radiology Fellow (FSIR). Dixon was amongst 32 new Fellows who were inducted at SIR’s 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting in Washington, DC. FSIR designation is one of the most prestigious honors granted to SIR’s Active and Corresponding members. Fellowship candidates are chosen based on outstanding credentials, achievements and community contributions to interventional radiology medicine, as well as SIR and SIR Foundation. An IR subspecialist’s FSIR designation indicates to peers and patients that physician’s commitment to quality IR care as subspecialist trained to specialize in all disease states within IR.

Over a decade+ as Department faculty, Dixon has made multiple contributions to IR at both the institutional and subspecialty levels. At UNC, Dixon most recently was named IR Residency Program Director (PD) after serving five+ years as both Diagnostic Radiology PD and Associate PD. Within SIR, he has served on multiple committees, amongst them: Safety and Health Committee (former Chair); Quality Improvement Committee; Fellows Radiology Safety Curriculum Sub-Committee; and SIR Foundation Radiation Safety Research Consensus Panel. In addition, he has served SIR as a CAQ oral board examiner and Scientific Session Moderator for over a decade. Equally significant, Dixon has repeatedly served as an SIR invited lecturer and seminar/workshop moderator. He has also contributed invaluably to SIR through co-authoring IR protocols, radiation safety guidelines and position statements.

Regarding the distinction of his selection for FSIR designation, Dr. Dixon noted: “It is truly an honor to be recognized by my colleagues and welcomed into this distinguished circle. This would not be possible without the generous support of that I have

received from my mentors, the department and the IR division here at UNC.”
