In November 2018, Epidemiology Research Division Director and Associate Professor Louise Henderson, PhD, presented her research as one of three honored scholars at the third annual Yang Family Biomedical Scholars seminar.  Henderson and two other School of Medicine faculty — Drs. Yen-Yu Ian Shih (Department of Neurology) and Jonathan Juliano (Department of Medicine) — were named the Society’s 2018 scholars in July and received funding for their biomedical research endeavors. Established in 2015, the Yang Scholars program enables UNC’s School of Medicine to further support young tenured faculty who have received national research recognition in their field and are making ongoing significant scholarly contributions.

Henderson’s November seminar presentation — “Precision Screening for Cancer” — overviewed her epidemiologic study of imaging-based breast cancer and lung cancer screening programs, performance of imaging technologies, comparative effectiveness research, and disparities in cancer screening and treatment.
