Interest Groups
The Radiology Interest Group (RIG) and Interventional Radiology Interest Group (IRIG) cultivate early interest in radiology specialties via Foundation Phase student activities and opportunities.  Faculty advisers are Brian Handly, MD (RIG) and Clayton Commander, MD, PhD (IRIG).
Career Advising & Shadowing
Our specialties are excited to recruit interested future radiologists! Department career goal advisers are available to counsel radiology-bound students. Career goal lead adviser is David Mauro MD. Any interested students (in all medical years) should reach out to one of the Radiology advisors.
Radiology Courses
There are many RADY electives for Individualization (and Application) Phase students highlighted on our student educational website. Jorge Oldan MD directs our largest elective, a general radiology elective. For questions, please contact UME program coordinator Shelby Schultz, BSW.

Ultrasound Scholarly Concentration Program
New in 2020,  the Ultrasound SCP brings together medical students, faculty and residents in collaborative manner in this longitudinal program that promotes the use of ultrasound as a valuable educational tool for preclinical medical students.

Global Health

The UNC Department of Radiology has robust global health programs in Kenya, Malawi, and North Carolina. We offer a Global Radiology elective for medical students. UNC Global Radiology lead is Melissa Culp, MEd, RTR. Join our global team!
