Ari Isaacson, MD, received industry funding (Anticipated funding: $15K / Sponsor: BTG International, Ltd.) in June 2018 to conduct retrospective data analysis to explore use of LC Bead LUMI™ in routine clinical practice for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Study goals will be supported by collecting data on safety, effectiveness and procedural information from across five U.S. sites.

Ari Isaacson, MD, received funding (UNC portion: $106K+ / Sponsor: Medtronic, Inc.) in June 2018 – “Randomized Placebo-Controlled Single Blinded Study of Geniculate Artery Embolization [GAE] for Knee Pain Secondary to Osteoarthritis [OA]”— as part of a multi-center (UNC, Vascular Institute of Virginia) prospective clinical trial exploring whether GAE reduces the severity of pain and global disability caused by knee OA compared with placebo. This study is a continuation of Dr. Isaacon’s other clinical research exploring use of GAE for knee pain.

Cherie Kuzmiak, DO, presented, “Mammography, the Nature of Screening, False Positives and False Negatives” in April 2018 as an invited lecturer in Chapel Hill, NC, at a UNC/National Courts and Science Institute (NCSI)-sponsored judicial education workshop. Entitled “Scientific Method, Tools and Measures; an NCSI/UNC Science Boot Camp and Medical School for Judges,” the workshop was facilitated by medical and science community speakers and attended by approximately 35 invited State of NC Supreme Court and US District Court judges. Over two days, expert facilitators presented their respective areas of expertise to guide judges in attendance with judicial decision-making in clinical cases involving screening results and other indicators.
