Sheng-Che “Alex” Hung, MD Clinical Instructor – Neuroradiology

The Department is pleased to have Alex Hung, MD, appointed in December 2017, as its newest Clinical Instructor. Dr. Hung will be working in the Division of Neuroradiology under the direction of Dr. Mauricio Castillo.

Hung obtained his MD from National Taiwan University (Taipei, Taiwan) in 2002. He remained there another year as an Internal Medicine resident before transitioning to Taipei Veterans General Hospital to complete his Diagnostic Radiology residency. Hung spent his initial years as an Attending Physician in Emergency Radiology, Medical Imaging and Intervention at Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital (Taoyuan, Taiwan). He shifted his subspecialty focus to Neuroradiology in returning to Taipei Veterans General Hospital, working six+ years there as an Attending Physician. Hung presently serves as an American Journal of Neuroradiology and Child’s Nervous System Reviewer and has previously served as the Deputy Secretary General of Neuroradiological Society of Taiwan and the Journal of Radiological Sciences Executive Editor. He has also given multiple neuroimaging-related invited lectures in recent years.

Appointment as Assistant Professor at National Yang-Ming University (Taipei) allowed Hung to dually pursue his research interests in Biomedical Imaging. He has since worked on pediatric epilepsy imaging, and Fabry disease imaging, and closely collaborated with Children’s Epilepsy Association of Taiwan and genetic counseling center in Taipei Veterans General Hospital.

After joining the outstanding team at UNC Radiology in the Division of Neuroradiology, Hung looks forwards to pursuing more research interests, especially, in the field of pediatric neuroradiology. He hopes to develop a translational research program bridging for the UNC Biomedical Research Imaging Center (BRIC) and the Division of Neuroradiology.
