The Department was pleased to welcome Ley Killeya-Jones, PhD, in April 2018 as the Carolina Mammography Registry (CMR)’s Research Associate and newest member. Ley works under the direction of Dr. Sarah Nyante and in coordination with eight other staff members and two students on CMR’s Epidemiology Research team. In her new role, Ley manages Dr. Nyante’s projects investigating the role of quantitative imaging data on risk for breast cancer. Her duties also encompass research and analysis tasks, manuscript and grant writing and submission, budget development and oversight, and IRB submissions.

Dr. Killeya-Jones received her B.A. from Queens College (New York, NY) in Interdisciplinary Arts in February 1992. Two years later, she received her M.S. from Syracuse University (Syracuse, NY) in Social Psychology. In May 1999, she received her PhD in Social-Developmental Psychology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.  Ley additionally completed both a NIDA Postdoctoral Fellowship (2005) and an NICHD Postdoctoral Fellowship (2008) at Duke University’s Center for Child and Family Policy.  She has most recently worked as a Project Manager in the Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy at UNC’s Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Prior to that position, Ley spent three years as the project manager on the Add Health study at the Carolina Population Center.

“My previous experience encompasses a diverse range of topical areas, including adolescent development and health behavior, genetic risk for type 2 diabetes, family medicine and vaccine effectiveness in elderly and low income communities, and pharmacoepidemiology. In each of these positions, I have enjoyed the challenge of developing an understanding of a new research area and often, new technologies and investigative approaches. I look forward to doing the same working with Dr. Nyante and learning about breast cancer risk generally and new technologies for breast imaging, more specifically.”

The Department was pleased to welcome Tricia White in April 2018 as the Outreach Division’s IT Professional and newest member. In this new role, Tricia works closely with Jay Crawford, Pete Petrin and Tonya Edge to provide IT support for the numerous sites that the Outreach Division serves.  Her major job responsibilities range from Help Desk Support and Problem Resolution to providing systems training for Outreach sites and Radiologists.

At age 13, Tricia began her long-time career in healthcare as a Candy Striper in Radiology at Raleigh Community Hospital (now Duke Raleigh Hospital). Seventeen years later, she returned to college to pursue a career in radiology.  Tricia received her A.A.S. in Radiological Science from Vance-Granville Community College in May 2000.  At Wake Technical Community College, she obtained further skills in imaging technology, including: 1) Magnetic Resonance Imaging Certification (2002); and 2) Computed Tomography Certification (2005).

Over 15+ years, Tricia worked as a staff MRI Technologist at multiple healthcare facilities, including: 1) Rex Hospital, Wake Radiology and Raleigh Radiology (Raleigh, NC); 2) InSight Imaging (Southeast U.S.); St. Vincent’s/Ascension Health (Jacksonville, FL); and 3) Alliance Imaging (Wake, Durham, Johnston Ctys). Since joining the Outreach team, she has continued working as a MRI technologist for Wake Radiology (PRN).

Tricia’s depth of experience in MRI technology earned her selection from a large pool of applicants in 2017 to join an international group of MRI Technologists to beta-test renowned MR innovator Dr. Emanuel Kanal’s MagnetVision Safety Application, just released in spring 2018.

White notes: “Joining the Outreach Team brings about exciting challenges for me.  It allows me to further my 18 years of clinical experience with various Health Information/Radiology Information Systems; I have already begun my training to become a “supertech” with EPIC, Philips IntelliSpace, and Fluency.

I never imagined at age 13, when I was typing patient information on index cards and then handwriting information on large film jackets that the evolution of radiology processes would be what it is today.  Transitioning into new aspects of patient care and the opportunities it brings is very intriguing.”

The Department was pleased to welcome Karla Allen in June 2018 as its newest Accounting Technician. She works within both the Contracts & Grants and Accounting divisions and joined the Department as a member of the School of Medicine (SOM)’s Finance Service Center.

Karla previously worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance in the Group Benefits department as a Senior Case Manager. She graduated from UNC-Charlotte in 2016 with a B.S. in Finance.

She notes: “I have completed several years of instruction and training in financial planning, budgeting and financial analysis and look forward to using these skills on a larger scale to assist with Accounting & Contracts/Grants within Radiology.”
