Eight faculty members, three clinical fellows and a dediicated abdominal radiology assistant perform all diagnostic work involving the abdomen and pelvis. This includes interpretation of plain films, CT, US and MRI, as well as the performance of numerous fluoroscopic procedures and approximately 150 percutaneous biopsies each year. All CT scans are performed on 16, 40 or 64-slice multi-detector scanners that allow nearly immediate 3D renderings of the urinary tract, vascular system, lungs and skeleton. For high resolution work, a vascular imaging laboratory with dedicated technologists is available. MR imaging is performed on seven 1.5T units (not including mobile units) and two 3.0T machines. Over 6700 MR body exams with over 500 prostate MR exams were performed in 2019.
We performed 5,685 body MR cases during 2017-2018, excluding those for musculoskeletal indications. Unique MR programs include screening for pancreatic and liver cancer, imaging of pregnant women with abdominal pain, and fetal imaging for birth defects. In ultrasound, our division performed over 300 abdominal US biopsies in 2019.
