In October 2019, Dr. Israel Saramago (R4) joined a collaborative team led by Dr. Audrey Verde (UNC School of Medicine alumnus / Stanford Radiology R3) to write an American College of Radiology (ACR) blog post called #DitchTheDisk. Dr. Verde invited Diagnostic Radiology residents like Dr. Saramago to overview the inefficiencies of using a CD (disk) to document and transfer imaging interpretations. Several contributors from various residency programs discussed how disk usage delays patient care. The trauma piece written by Drs Jeanette Matthieu (UCSF Radiology R2) and Dr. Saramago was published in January 2020. Saramago noted:

“Jeanette Matthieu and I picked trauma to highlight the importance of transferring images quickly for critically ill patients being transferred to higher-level care. I believe we must fully embrace a secured cloud-sharing platform for the future of our specialty in providing better, more efficient care. That’s why I joined the #DitchTheDisk Task Force.”
