The start of an academic year is an exciting time in our residency program as we welcomed our 9 new DR and 2 new IR residents (UNC Radiology 2021-2022 residents). In addition, we had several transitions in our GME program leadership. Dr. Peter Bream passed his Diagnostic Radiology Program Director (PD) duties to Dr. Cody Schwartz, who previously served as Associate Program Director. Furthermore, Dr. David Mauro took over for Dr. Bob Dixon as the Interventional Radiology PD. Drs. Katrina McGinty and Erin Moran joined the Diagnostic Radiology team as Associate program directors and Drs. Peter Bream and Cody Schwartz were appointed as Associate PDs for the Interventional Radiology residencies. Current education projects include revamping our education committees and our educational conference curriculum and schedule. Our goals for the year include building on our resident wellness as well as increasing our research collaboration with our radiologic sciences faculty. Our residents are hard at work planning a resident retreat, most likely to be held in the spring of 2022.
With the ongoing pandemic, it was announced that our recruitment will again be virtual this year. The GME team hopes to build upon the success of our prior year’s virtual resident match and we thank our residents, faculty, alumni, staff – especially Laurie Birdsong for her web design expertise, and our program coordinator, Krista Sills for participating and making our recruitment season successful. We are excited to begin our upcoming interview season and meet our prospective future residents!
