The Clinical Research Division continues to grow and most recently welcomed Travis Patterson as our newest Clinical Research Assistant. In addition, Assistant Professor Dr. Katrina McGinty has been promoted to the Associate Medical Director of the Radiology Core Service Center.
Assistant Professor Dr. Jessica Stewart of our Vascular Interventional Radiology Division recently received $26,101 from Terumo Medical Corporation to conduct a retrospective analysis of women treated for uterine fibroids using embolization. She will analyze the effectiveness of Uterine Artery Embolization using the Hydropearl microspheres as the embolic agent to improve future treatment practices.
Dr. Cherie Kuzmiak, Professor and Chief of Breast Imaging, has recently received $53,851.61 from SimBioSys, Inc. to test a novel software to evaluate how accurately it predicts tumor response post therapy. The study would also be used for discovery analysis of how results can support clinical decision making and research. Cherie also serves as the Principal Investigator for the Tomosynthesis Mammography Screening Trial (TMIST), for which UNC continues to be the leading site for recruitment.
Dr. Lauren Burke, Associate Professor and Chief of Abdominal Imaging, is Co-Principal Investigator along with Dr. Emily Chang of UNC’s Division of Nephrology and Hypertension on two clinical trials funded by Lantheus in the amounts of $74,893.36 and $49,001.28. Both trials center on applications of contrast enhanced ultrasound for renal imaging.
