In late November 2018, UNC Radiology staff supported local food aid non-profit TABLE through donating dry goods and monetarily to its Weekend Meal Backpack Program and Snack Chef programs. Staff members contributed almost 70 pounds of dry goods in support of the weekly emergency food aid program to Chapel Hill/Carrboro-area school children in need. They additionally contributed $200+ to support purchasing non-perishable and fresh food items for Weekend Meal Backpack Program kids in the community who receive subsidized, weekly meals provided by CHCCS area schools.
Our staff volunteers also participated in TABLE’s after-school program Snack Chef at both Culbreth Middle School and Rena Community Center. Over two volunteer days, staff prepared take-home bags at TABLE headquarters of a healthy snack that school kids at each place were shown how to prepare, with the aim of interesting them to try making the snack at home after departing with bags of ingredients.
