Fellows will gain expertise in the rapid interpretation of imaging studies critical to the management of acute trauma, neurological, cardiovascular, and abdominal emergencies. The program emphasizes hands-on experience with advanced imaging techniques, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, and interventional procedures. Fellows will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams in a high-volume emergency department, developing the skills necessary to provide accurate and timely diagnostic information in high-pressure situations. opportunities will include ASER lectures, monthly division peer learning conferences, and other interdisciplinary conferences at UNC<\/li>\n<li>When rotating off-service, fellow should attend any educational conferences hosted by that division (e.g. weekly neuroradiology conferences)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Fellow teaching\n<ul>\n<li>Educating residents and medical students is a great opportunity for fellow to enhance their teaching skills while consolidating their own knowledge<\/li>\n<li>When time and study volumes allow, fellow is encouraged to participate in workstation teaching of residents and medical students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Fellow will be expected to give 1-2 resident conferences during the academic year<\/li>\n<li>Scholarly activity\n<ul>\n<li>Program will pay for fellow to attend the ASER annual meeting; attendance is highly encouraged<\/li>\n<li>Scholarly activity requirement:\n<ul>\n<li>Fellow is expected to complete at least one scholarly project while in fellowship<\/li>\n<li>Options for satisfying the requirement include educational exhibits, case reports, scientific projects, and other scholarly work at the discretion of the program oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p>ER blocks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Each ER block will consist of 7 evening shifts (4p-1a) followed by 7 days free of clinical responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>Overnight (9p-6a) shifts are OPTIONAL, not required<\/li>\n<li>If a fellow works a stretch of 7 overnight shifts, this will be followed by 14 days free of clinical responsibilities\n<ul>\n<li>No more than TWO (2) overnight weeks shall be scheduled during the fellowship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Elective blocks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clinical schedule during non-ER blocks is at the discretion of the division hosting the fellow<\/li>\n<li>The fellow is expected to follow the clinical schedule (including any call responsibilities) provided by the hosting division<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n autonomy<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i><\/i>Interpreting the full breadth of radiology examinations ordered through the emergency department and in other emergent settings<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Promptly communicating critical and unexpected results to clinical teams<\/li>\n<li>Adding value as a consultant, both in verbal communication with clinical teams and via <i>well-organized <\/i>and <i>clinically relevant <\/i>radiology reports<\/li>\n<li>Protocoling studies as needed, with attending input only in complex or unusual cases<\/li>\n<li>Working with technologists to troubleshoot challenging cases, including contrast reactions, imaging artifacts, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Assisting residents with fluoroscopic and percutaneous image-guided procedures as needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Elective blocks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>While rotating in other divisions, clinical expectations are identical to those of that division\u2019s fellows<\/li>\n<li>Clinical responsibilities while on other services will be discussed with individual division chiefs and\/or fellowship director<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Because fellow education is an overriding priority, the fellow will <i>NEVER be required to issue final interpretations <\/i>on imaging studies while working in the ER division.<\/p>\n<p>Fellows may have the <i>option <\/i>of issuing final reports at the discretion of the program director and other faculty<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Details dependent on fellow comfort and skill level<\/li>\n<li>This can be addressed identification of strengths and weaknesses are crucial for a fellow\u2019s development into a well-rounded clinical subspecialist<\/li>\n<li>Evaluation based on ACGME Core Competencies<\/li>\n<li>Fellow will meet with the program director at the following intervals after beginning the program to discuss his\/her progress:\n<ul>\n<li>6 weeks<\/li>\n<li>6 months<\/li>\n<li>11-12 months<\/li>\n<li>Other meetings may be scheduled as needed to address any concerns or issues as they arise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mentorship<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing fellow mentorship is a core responsibility of the fellowship director and other program faculty<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Faculty will be available as needed to discuss fellow\u2019s career development and provide requested advice<\/li>\n<li>Faculty will provide
