Congratulations, Maureen Kohi, MD, Ernest H. Wood Distinguished Professor and Chair of the UNC Department of Radiology. Dr. Kohi was awarded the Tom Dorsey Gold Medal\u2014by the Western Angiographic and Interventional Society (WAIS) in recognition of her lifelong contribution to Interventional Radiology.<\/h4>\n

\"MaureenThe Western Angiographic & Interventional Society was founded to provide a forum to share new ideas and to learn from each other’s successes, failures, and innovative techniques. Many of the founders were pioneers who made valuable contributions toward improving patient care by developing new techniques to treat disease. Others published research findings or worked with engineers to design new catheters and implantable devices, ultimately creating a new industry where minimally invasive procedures provided alternative treatments to peripheral vascular disease, aneurysms, cancer, stroke, and many other vascular and non-vascular conditions.<\/p>\n

\"TomThe Tom Dorsey Gold Medal was established in 1996 to honor and acknowledge the lifelong Interventional Radiology contributions of Dr. Thomas Dorsey. Dr. Dorsey was a founding member of WAIS and the 1983 President of the organization. He practiced Interventional Radiology at UC, Irvine, and Children’s Hospital of Orange County until he died in 1995. Recipients of this medal are recognized for their long-standing contributions to WAIS and Interventional Radiology.<\/p>\n

Dr. Kohi has served in numerous leadership roles in WAIS, including Program Chair, Vice President, President, and is now the Past President of the Society.<\/p>\n
