Brit and her colleagues take a high volume of phone calls every day, connecting referring providers with radiologists to discuss imaging studies, clarify findings, or escalate emergent results. When something urgent arises, she helps ensure the right people are connected immediately so patients can receive emergency services without delay.

It’s work that requires calm under pressure, strong communication skills, and a deep understanding of radiology workflows—and Brit brings all three.

A Day in the Life

A typical day for Brit is anything but quiet.

“We take a lot of phone calls,” she says. “We help connect providers to the radiologist so they can discuss the studies, and we help connect the radiologist to providers if they need clarification.”

Those connections can be routine—or critical. When emergent findings come through, Brit helps move information quickly and accurately, ensuring no time is lost when patient care is on the line.

Finding Her Way to UNC Radiology

Brit’s path to UNC Radiology is rooted in both passion and resilience.

She originally trained as a radiologic technologist and began her career at an urgent care that later became affiliated with UNC’s Physicians Network. During that time, she was also serving as a lab manager. But as her rheumatoid arthritis worsened, the physical demands of hands-on imaging work—moving equipment and positioning patients—became increasingly difficult.

“I wanted to stay in the medical and radiology field,” she says, “but I needed something that would take less of a toll on my body.”

That search led her to her current role in administrative support, where she’s now been for six to seven years—continuing to contribute her clinical knowledge in a way that’s sustainable and impactful.

A Love for Radiology, Sparked Early

Brit’s interest in radiology started well before her professional career. In high school, she attended a specialized performing arts and trade school that offered medical training. One teacher—a former X-ray technologist—opened the door.

“I asked if I could do extra rounds in radiology,” Brit recalls. She rotated through MRI, X-ray, CT, and more. “I really liked the atmosphere. And I liked how cool it was—literally,” she laughs.

That early exposure sealed the deal, setting her on a path that would eventually bring her to UNC Radiology.

More Than Meets the Eye

Ask Brit what she wishes her colleagues knew about her, and you might be surprised.

“I can do fire spinning and hoop dancing,” she says. She’s been practicing for about 15 years and can perform intricate tricks with hula hoops—and even fire.

It’s a perfect example of Brit’s creative, unexpected side—one that also shows up in her love of coloring books with alcohol markers when she’s off the clock.

Mom First, Always

When asked to describe herself in one word, Brit doesn’t hesitate: “Momma.”

She once thought she’d never have kids, but becoming a mother changed everything. “Being a mom is my favorite thing about my life,” she says. “I didn’t know you could love something as much as I love her.”

Most of her time outside of work is spent caring for her daughter, Savannah—a role that brings her immense joy and perspective.

Wisdom, Whimsy, and a Little Super Speed

If Brit could give her younger self advice, it would be this: don’t give too much time to people who don’t deserve it.
